Great

The animation is great. The darkness of the beginning contrasts wonderfully with the bright vibrancy of the dream world. The squiggly lines and lighting effect are nice. The transition of the light pouring out of its shape as a transition out of reality is good. The protagonist, antagonist, sheep, and ram are all well drawn and slightly surreal.

The music is good. It fits the general theme of the animation and the action in the animation matches well with the music.

The plot is good. It takes place in a bright dream world contrasted with the darkness of the reality outside of it. The antagonist is an interesting character. What is known is that he wants to stop the protagonist and he uses his uncountable sheep army to try to do so.

This flash is short, but interesting, upbeat, and exciting to warrant attention.

Spillkaidah responds:

Thank you for the review! I'm really grateful for your acknowledgement. And yea, the intention of that contrast was to mark the threshold of how "with-it" we are as we approach sleep. Its kinda like we pop into something that's far more real than our drowsy, half-eyed state. anyways, 'glad you liked it!

Good

The animation is fair. More detail in every part of the animation would be great. Everything was fairly smooth and the lighting effects used in the landscape in the beginning and in the Earthscape as it is lit up are good. The use of shadows was fair considering the lack of detail.

Sound was good. The volume and speed of the music changes with the animation a bit, which shows that you put quite a bit of thought into the music you were using as opposed to simply adding in a song you thought sounded good without syncing it with the animation. That being said, parts of the song sound as though the gain was simply turned up nearly all the way and it sounds almost distorted.

The plot was amazing. The beginning takes place in an unassuming landscape. The last place one would expect to make contact with alien life forms. Then an ordinary lizard discovers an alien artifact which humans would have been astounded to find. The comically startled look on the lizard's face adds to the scene by showing that he does not know what he's found more than anyone else would. The symbols on the aliens' foreheads and their facial expressions imply that they have a much stronger connection to lizards than they would humans. That being said, who's to say this doesn't all take place thousands of years ago, or even millions of years into the future?

Fair animation. Good use of shadows and lighting. Detail needs work. Good audio. An improvement would be to collaborate with an audio artist on your next submission and then both the animation and music could be tweaked to create the effect you want. The best part of this flash is the plot which is both funny and awe-inspiring.

Slinkers responds:

Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it. I will work on the things you mentioned in future animations.

Good

The animation is good. The characters and a few objects appear to be hand drawn which is a nice effect that causes them to stand out from the background. The animation is smooth and what hasn't been drawn by hand has been animated fairly well in flash. The only problem is that they appear a bit pixelated. It's better to draw them large and scale them down accordingly than try to draw them small and scale them up, as quality is lost in the process. The happy, cartoon style in the scene where the two brains are together is a nice touch that shows the happiness within their minds which is then shattered by Dr. Cerebrum.

The audio is good. The mood of the music changed with the mood of each scene well. The music is good. You can tell the audio was designed for the animation.

The plot is great. It's sad, it's happy, it's sad, and then it's happy again when you don't expect it to be. This isn't a simple, easy to guess plot. There aren't many moments where you can tell what is going to happen next. There is enough suspense to keep the viewer interested and actively engaged in the story. The plot is certainly the best part of this flash.

ClockworkPixel responds:

thansk for the review, one of the problems from day 1 was the pixelated drawings i couldn't really sort it no matter what i did in fact if you look at the file size it's just bearly under 10mb it took alot of shaving down to get it to be the right size. i don't think i wil ldo this style again unless i can iron out these problems but i'm pleased with how it came out :) and thanks for talking about the music with out it the flash was bland zip really saved this one with his score

Good

The animation was good. All of the characters are well drawn and the art style is original. The presentation of the title in the beginning was interesting. As the male protagonist walks along, the title appear behind him. Little things like that really add to an animation. The part where the female character is sniffing the air is also very well done. Other parts of the animation would be better if they were as fluid as that scene, but the graphics themselves remain fairly well-drawn throughout.

There is a small animation mistake around ten seconds in where a small dot remains on the leg of the table after the protagonist's arm moves past it. The shadow as the female character leans over the protagonist and the protagonist's facial expression before he becomes conscious do look slightly odd. Her shadow makes her look like she only has one eye and his eyes look a bit far apart whilst closed.

The sound was good. The music matches up with the animation well. The feelings the music conveys matched up with the events of the story in a way that keeps it interesting. Many animators make the mistake of tacking on music that simply does not fit the animation.

The plot was good. Comedic moments such as the female character being introduced by accidentally being drawn by the protagonist and him being annoyed by her dancing around him whilst he is tied up keep the animation funny.

The best parts of this flash are definitely the unique art style and the facial expressions of the characters. The facial expressions made by the protagonist, especially his eyes, are funny without being over the top.

gusana responds:

Thank you very much, I really apreciate your critique, it really make me want to keep going my work on animation n_n

Good

The animation is good. It is smooth and well animated throughout. The smoke effect that is used could have been a bit more detailed, as it doesn't look quite right in the spots where it is used. It also looks a bit awkward when Scotty gets off of the couch.

The audio is good. The music is slightly repetitive, but matches the tone of the narration well. The rhyming narration adds a bit of comic relief to everything that happens. The audio levels of the narration and characters could be tweaked a little bit.

The plot is good. For an introduction, it's fairly interesting to watch. It keeps the viewer entertained, foreshadowing the possible events of the full short film.

The full short film will likely be well received. Perhaps you could upload it to Newgrounds when you're done entering it into festivals. Even if the file size is too big, an administrator will probably up your limit upon request so you can submit it.

COOPERsPLANET responds:

The rest of the film is actually live-action, don't know if I mentioned that...

Out of this World

Well animated, consistently animated, and smoothly animated. Interesting art style. Good use of lighting and curves. Squiggly animation style accompanied with occasional pixelated pulses make it look deserted, but somehow alive with energy.

The interesting, pulsating nature of everything makes it look as though you've given the beams of light and radio waves as much life as the protagonist. Even the ground below him pulsates with life.

There isn't any apparent plot or story, but this little guy in the middle of space has his own tale to be told and the interpreted by the viewer. This open-endedness circumvents the need for any conventional narration or other forms conveying events and causes it to be more thought provoking.

The animation fits the audio perfectly. Visuals of light and sound accompany the audio and fit extremely well together. All action is matched up with audio and no part of the song is without accompanying animation. This gives the animation an interesting rhythm to it that makes it pleasing to watch and listen.

Wonderful animation, hypnotic audio, thought provoking plot, and overall terrific viewing experience.

FakeMistake responds:

Wow, thank you for your comment.
It is these kind of responses that makes me happy for what I have done.

Good

Minecraft has been getting quite a bit of attention lately. There are parodies all over the Internet. The popularity of something on the Internet is proportional to the number of jokes made about it, I suppose.

The graphic quality is good, but it's simply not smooth. It looks good in a few places, but the animation is overly jumpy and detracts from the animation. The roughness of the animation is nearly made up for by the good quality of the frames that are actually there and the facial expressions of the characters.

The facial expressions of the characters and the way the creepers move adds to the silly theme of the animation itself. The creepers swing along as if to say "Don't mind me. Just creeping around.", but the protagonist is rightfully confused by their odd appearance.

That being said, Minecraft jokes related to creepers are a common theme in Minecraft parodies. They're done much too often. The parts with the lava and the chicken were original, though, and show that this flash is about more than creepers exploding and causing havoc.

The ending with the chicken is the best part of the animation. It's unexpected and not entirely logical, but it's just what was needed to end the animation.

Overall good animation and very good considering only eight hours of production time.

RickkMurray responds:

wow thanks for the long review. I do agree on you with the creeper jokes and I have noticed everyone dose them. There was another skit I wanted to do but by then this was on newgrounds. lol again thanks for the review
RIP Chicken

Well Done

The animation was smooth and uniform, all camera movements were fluid and interesting, and the jokes were good. The "old film" style of the introduction was a nice touch. The cast of characters is already looking to be interesting. The voice acting was done well and no voices seemed to be "off", as at least one voice in most complex animations has a tendency to be. The protagonist even looks a bit like Gordon Freeman.

Toonwerks responds:

We wanted him to look like kind of a dork :P

Great

It's well animated and has a good plot. The scene where the strange creatures and the eye appear are a huge twist in both the apparent atmosphere of the flash as well as a temporary change in art style which serves to foreshadow that something is wrong with Charlie Brown. Good use of animation style change to signal a disturbance in the apparently serene world this takes place in.

NEXTVIEW-Designs responds:

Thanks, the climax doesn't occur until the very end so I put that scene in there early to pique the interest of the audience. Glad to learn the foreshadowing was effective.

Good

Good for such a short animation. It's quick and to the point, the animation is good, and it's funny. Many Newgrounds users seem to have the same problem as the protagonist.

That being said, this is well above the quality of most users' first submissions. I hope that you continue to improve and submit more work in the future.

SkoopleFloop responds:

You've figured out the joke ;P
