Good concept. Execution needs work.

The good:
The concept of jumping between two surfaces which are moving at different speeds and trying to collect coins at the same time.

The bad:
Everything else.

You have something good here. I have played many similar games over the years, but none are quite like this. If you spend more time on the art and add new variations to the gameplay then you will have a good game.

Maybe you can change the character and background. It could be a guy jumping between two skyscrapers or a creature jumping between the bottom and top of a cave. Using boxes seems like like an animator limitation than a design choice. Make something creative.

I also recommend that you change the way death works. I believe you should have one and only one life. If you die then you need to restart. This increases the risk. It forces the player to make tougher decisions, 'Should I try to reach that coin. If I fail...'

Integrate it with the Newgrounds API. Add highscores and achievements. Make people care about the score they get. Then they will care about your game.

Good

The graphics were fairly detailed for a NES-style game. None of the backgrounds seem to have been reused. Different palettes during different parts of the story added to the effect of the scene while the backgrounds and sprites added to the feeling of playing a NES game.

The audio is good. The music sounds pony-esque and maintains the NES theme. Both audio and visuals manage to keep the theme of a pony NES game while remaining good quality.

The plot is good. When you enter the town where the blanks live, you hardly expect what is going to happen next, although the pony in the house with the crates foreshadows that something is terribly wrong. It could have been longer. It seems as though everything in the game happened quite fast.

The gameplay is good. The ghost ponies are enough to take most of the players off guard and keep them interested during the escape of the forest. More could have been done to add different gameplay elements. Most of the game is just talking to ponies.

You could contact Lauren Faust about turning the plot into a full movie or an episode.

Thanks for the feedback!

The people who made the music did an awesome job indeed! There are so many awesome chiptune artists out there if you just look around a bit.

The game was a bit short, 32 screens to be exact. That's actually based upon an arbitrary limitation I set for the levels to avoid spreading out the game over too many screens. Past experiences tell me that players don't particularly enjoy too many empty areas and tend to get a bit impatient if a game takes too long to get somewhere.

lawdy, I'd like to see this as an episode in the show. The one episode that gets the show banned in Germany and gives children over the world nightmares :D

Well Done

Not every game can pull off the "low resolution" look, but this is one of the games that can. Fitting music complements the creepy, almost warped theme of the game. The lighting system is well designed, with obvious shadows falling in places where the light cannot reach due to obstacles. Each level has a unique theme to it to add variety.

What would make it even better would be a bit more of an ending and something else to do as far as gameplay goes. As it is now, it's nothing but labyrinths .

I appreciate that comment a lot <3 Thanks!

Good

This game has a good concept: a lone block in a tower full of blocks which the lone block must escape from. Using that as the basis for the game was a good decision. The graphics are fair. What is really lacking is a plot or motivation to go through the tower. Adding a little bit of story to the beginning of the game would be a good idea. From there, the game could continue on infinitely and have randomly generated floors. At the end there could be a global highscore board.

OneWizard responds:

Exactly! I finished Block In A Tower with a few features left out, but the sequel will have all that and more! (except maybe the global highscore board, but I'll see what I can do)

Good

The idea of bringing around a platform you can respawn on and then dying to your advantage is an interesting concept. The graphics remind me a bit of VVVVVV, but the overall game mechanics are radically different and focus on more of a puzzle-oriented platforming experience which is good.

The music isn't bad, but it seems a little bit standard for 8-bit-style platformers. The controls aren't very good, but the puzzles make up for it. All-in-all good game.

Good Game

Definitely a good game. Good music and good graphics. Interesting gameplay. Many more options than the standard rhythm game.

Great

This is definitely a good Flash version of Mario Kart. With a few tweaks and bug fixes, it could be a nearly exact replica.

Looks Are Deceiving

I had originally seen this game on Newgrounds a long time ago and hadn't thought much of it. I was intrigued to find it on Steam very recently and purchased it in a pack of Indie games. I decided to give it a fair chance this time around. Why not? I had paid for it anyway.

It automatically stood out amongst the games. The method of teaching new game mechanics is to have each major area include a new one and work up from incredibly easy to truly difficult implementations of the mechanic each challenge. The final stages of the game are a testament to your adaptability and mastery of each mechanic introduced as well as a challenging and mind-boggling.

Even with the main story out of the way, you're still free to collect the twenty shiny things scattered around the dimension. Some, specifically three, of which are more challenging to obtain than most of the challenges in the main story. Doing so will unlock a final secret and a new game mode.

Overall great game. Very challenging, to the point where getting less than 500 deaths is a noteworthy achievement. Good story with lovable, funny characters. Worth the price. For sure.

Great Game

Great game. It's short, but very good. It has a good story and is fun to complete. Very high quality for something made in only 48 hours of time.

It's also nice to see that Monkokio has contributed to a new project. It's been forever since the last game.

Rivoting

I would like this game to be turned into a movie. Rarely have I seen such artistic passion expressed in a game in such a wonderfully creative way which captivated me the whole time. Unforgettable characters and intense dialog; mind boggling puzzles and its fair share of comedic moments. This game has it all.
